This interactive workshop is designed for animal care personnel who wish to strengthen their training techniques within the vivarium environment, with methods applicable across all species. Participants will explore how principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) can be employed to build voluntary cooperation and trust while minimizing the need for traditional practices of physical restraint and restriction. Participants will learn how to integrate evidence-based strategies such as Antecedent Arrangement, Priming, Behavioral Momentum, Errorless Learning, and Functional Communication Techniques into daily routines. These methods provide structured frameworks for shaping and reinforcing desired behaviors, improving predictability, and supporting animal autonomy. By emphasizing positive affect and mutual engagement, the course helps handlers design individualized training plans that reduce stress, promote psychological well-being, and streamline routine procedures. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to enhance welfare, efficiency, and safety in animal handling, fostering a culture of care grounded in behavioral science. No prior training experience is required; this curriculum welcomes participants at all levels of behavioral knowledge who are motivated to refine their approach to animal care through compassion, curiosity, and collaboration.
